Letters from Consultants:

The surgery understands that a wide range of our patients are under the care of one or more consultants for their medical needs. Due to this consultants usually send through clinical letters giving your doctor an overview of what was undertaken or discussed in a consultants appointment that you have at the hospitals around the UK.

If you aware aware that a clinical letter is being sent through from your consultant please note that these letters are not always sent to us immediately after or on the day of your consultants appointment. In very few cases the consultant will send the letter the same day usually only when their is an action that is needed to be undertaken urgently by your GP. In some cases letters can come through up to 4 weeks after your appointment.

If you feel that the issue discussed within your consultants appointment needs our attention (for example a new prescription for medications) please ensure your consultant sends the letter through to us as soon as possible. This will then decrease the delay in getting the letter actioned for you.

Please note clinical letters needing medications to be prescribed will still work alongside our usual prescription procedure which is where you need to allow 72 hours after we have received a letter for the medications to be actioned. If you have your medications delivered your medications will be actioned and then delivered the following week dependant on the day the letter is received.
